Maui is made for honeymooners. You and your loved one can enjoy sunset catamarans with luauas and barbecues, as well as candlelit dinners on Wailea Beach. Take drives along the Road to Hana where waterfalls spill onto lush cliffs. If you love the ocean, snorkeling in Maui on your honeymoon is a must. The ocean is calm enough to explore vibrant reefs teeming with tropical fish and sea turtles. A morning at Molokini Crater or Turtle Town feels like swimming in your own private aquarium — it’s peaceful, colorful, and one of those “we’ll remember this forever” core memories.
🌴 Oahu — More Than Just Waikiki
If you love the energy of a city but still want surf and sand, Oahu is your match. Spend the morning hiking Diamond Head, the afternoon shopping in Waikīkī, and the evening having a steak dinner on a rooftop overlooking the ocean. I highly recommend visiting the east side to see Byodi-In Temple, it is truly one of my favorite places on earth. It is the perfect place to center yourself spiritually and with the earth, regardless of religion or lack thereof.
Spend your mornings snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, where coral gardens and tropical fish glow beneath calm turquoise water. Pro tip: Tickets for Hanauma Bay open two days in advance and sell out fast, so make sure to set a reminder to book right when they’re released so you don’t miss your spot. I unfortunately did, so I will be going back on my own visit next spring, which is my personal favorite time to travel to Hawaii. One of my best dining tips for anyone in Oahu is to enjoy afternoon tea at the Moana Surfrider. This experience is one of my favorite hidden gems for my clients. You’ll enjoy a variety of menus while overlooking the ocean, featuring signature cocktails, finger foods, and all the old-Hawaii charm. Be sure to reserve your table in advance, since the best seating times fill quickly.
🌿 Kauai — The Garden Isle
Kauai is called the “Garden Isle,” and is the oldest of the 4 major islands. For couples craving privacy and nature, Kauai is pure magic. You can take helicopter tours over emerald valleys, visit beaches that feel secret, go hiking in Waimea Canyon, and have romantic dinners on your porch or balcony surrounded by nothing but the sounds of nature. Kauai is a place to connect and the earth on your honeymoon, the quiet is the perfect place to start forever. You can also catch a glimpse of Ni’ihau from Kauai, the forbidden island you won’t be visiting on your honeymoon (or ever, probably, unless you are in the military and get special access).

“The Big Island”, the biggest island officially named Hawaii, is full of adventure. It feels a little wilder, a little more untamed, and completely unforgettable. You can spend your mornings lounging by a black-sand beach and your afternoons chasing waterfalls. I highly recommend exploring the lava fields of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.
If you love to snorkel, a night snorkel with manta rays in Kona is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Floating under the stars as these gentle giants swoop beneath you is pure magic. Tip: book your tour a few days ahead, since the best sunset slots fill quickly. For all my coffee lovers, visit a local coffee farm in Kona or take a drive through the island’s upcountry hills, where the air smells like rain and roasted beans. End your evening with dinner at one of the luxury resorts in Waikoloa. The sunsets there are unreal and the stargazing is some of the best in the world.
🏝️ Lanai — The Private Escape
If you and your love are dreaming of total privacy, Lanai is Hawaii at its most exclusive. It’s the smallest of the inhabited islands, with no traffic lights and only a handful of roads, so the pace here is slow and the crowds simply don’t exist. Spend your days at Hulopoe Bay, a protected marine preserve where you can snorkel over technicolor reefs and, if you’re lucky, watch spinner dolphins play just offshore. Just above the bay is Sweetheart Rock (Puu Pehe), tied to an old Hawaiian love legend. It’s one of the most romantic sunset spots in the islands and is practically made for a honeymoon photo. For a little adventure, rent a 4×4 and explore the Garden of the Gods (Keahiakawelo), an otherworldly landscape of red rock spires that glows at golden hour. Since it’s the least developed of the islands, Molokai is the island for couples who want Hawaii without the resorts, the crowds, or much of anything touristy. It has the highest percentage of Native Hawaiians of any island, and you feel it the second you land, quieter, slower, more local, just the way old Hawaii used to feel. There are no stoplights and no big hotels, so plan on a condo or a small rental. Papohaku Beach is three miles of white sand, and you’ll usually have most of it to yourselves, which rarely happens anywhere else in Hawaii. The one experience I’d really point you to is a guided hike through Halawa Valley, which is led by local families who’ve lived there for generations, and you walk back to a waterfall while they share the history of the valley. It’s not a polished tour, and that’s the whole point. If you’re up early in Kaunakakai, go to Kanemitsu Bakery for their hot bread. Locals line up at the back door at night for it, it’s a whole thing. And if you want something more meaningful, look into visiting Kalaupapa, the old settlement below the sea cliffs. It’s home to the world’s tallest sea cliffs and a powerful story of compassion, and takes a permit and some planning, but it’s an important and unforgettable piece of Hawaiian history. Molokai won’t be for everyone, but for the right couple, it’s the most honest island out there.
